Keep the lifeline

The government has announced that universal credit will be cut this month (October 2021) despite the increasing cost of living. For survivors of trafficking and exploitation, this could be devastating. Please take action today.

Why?

Universal credit is a lifeline for many of the survivors we work with. The government had increased this by £20 a week in response to covid, but has now dropped it back down. For a single person under 25, this would take it from £79 to £59 a week.

Even with the £20 boost, many of the women we work with were facing huge challenges to meet the increasing cost of living.

'The recent reduction in universal credit poses a huge risk to the survivors we work with, who already struggle to make ends meet,’ says Ella’s’ Lauren Martin. ‘We’ll continue to do all we can to support and empower them, but we strongly appeal to the government to reverse its decision to cut universal credit.’

Please join us in backing calls for the government to reverse its decision.

What you can do

For survivors of trafficking and exploitation, poverty sets back their recovery and puts them in serious danger of re-exploitation. Please take action today to #keepthelifeline
